Esplanade & Dinner

Exam is finally over! Everyday i'm waiting for the day to get my car (rental), since it is very expensive, had to rent for only 4 days till the day i leave Miri. Miri is a place whereby if you don't have a car, you'll be stuck, can't go anywhere. Bus/taxi is alternative but expensive =P

The day (evening) when i got the car, i do feel a bit shaky while driving, been sometime since i drive long distance. Had to drive all the way to esplanade since i got a hot date a night nearby there. Thanks to my GPS, i'm able to reach the beach before sunset. I hears sunset & beach very much.

Sunset at the beach is the best place you can do with your other half *hint hint*. Walking on the beach, feeling the breeze, the sound of wave

Night time, went to Siamese Secret for dinner after picking up shin hui. The place was packed with people until we are forced to sit outside. I insist on sitting inside and kept peeping inside to find a seat =P

After a while, we are allocated a seat inside the restaurant, that's more like it. I'm having a hot date with a lady, how can i let her sit outside with both of us sweating and dining. The ambiance inside the restaurant was really nice, well decorated although it is a little small.

French Onion was something unexpected. May be this particular restaurant have its own unique taste but it sure doesn't suit me. An french onion should be sweet or overly sweet! nuf said

Char Grilled Lamb was not too bad. Definitely worth what you paid for, even more than expected. The portion was huge, being given 3 pieces of lambs. Will be better if they didn't over cook it to fit with the sauce.

Sirloin steak was really good as the had marinated with spices, it does have a hint of cajun and other spices which i couldn't identify. I ordered my doneness to be medium rare, to my disappointment, it looks more like medium.

Address of Siamese Secret : Lot 513 jalan merbau, ground floor 98000, Miri, Sarawak.

After dinner, went to Beach Republic for night beach view. Regretted that i didn't bring torchlight for a night walk on the beach! Beach Republic is like a club open for public if not mistaken. With restaurant, beach ball, swimming pool, gym, etc..

Jing Wood Cafe @ 612 Pelita Commercial Centre, Miri

In the evening after the campus tour round 2, we went back to town for dinner. Simon recommended Jing Wood Cafe at the cross junction of Jalan Pelita because I was complaining there's not much local food at town! =S Most shops are closed.

Before that, we wanted to try Madam Wee or Sin Foh Cafe in Krokop as we heard they are famous for their sarawak laksa and homemade noodle. Went along Jalan Krokop and only manage to find Madam Wee. Unfortunately, the shop is close at 4p.m. We were late. So Jing Wood Cafe at town.

This was something i'm looking forward, Red Wine Mee Sua. Strong aromatic soup and the meat wasn't tough, this perfected my dinner at Miri today. After finishing, i could feel my body was a bit hot due to the red wine soup, did they put a lot or was i just weak to alcohol.!

After resting in the hotel for few hours, stomach started to growl. Did some minor research on food around Imperial Palace, found there's a famous hot plate clam kuey teow nearby. Coincidentally, it was Jing Wood! When we mention Char kuey teow, we always think about Penang. Here its different, this stalls uses hotplate instead of wok, so there will not be the "wok hei" there.

It will be unfair if we compare this to Penang's one as they are different style of method. It is unique as they fry with cockles and one thing that was familiar to me but i would not expect it to be an ingredient to this dish - shrimp belacan. Taste wise unique but i still prefer a kuey teow with a strong 'wok hei'

Some people said western food are famous here. I disagree to that. My pork chop was overcooked which resulted in chewing pork chewing gum. Would not recommend this but there's wide range of western food there and most of the table will have at least 1-2 plates of western food.
