Photography Competition

When i heard that there's is a Curtin photo competition, i didn't think twice to grab the form and register myself. There's even prize that up to RM400 voucher from Sha ShinKi (as a photographer i don't know about this name until ly told me about it =.=").

I chose few themes i wanted to take and this is one of the theme i like the most : Beauty in Villa.

Unfortunately, i didn't submit my photos for the competition. My huge mistake was I did not read the rules and regulation clearly. When i filtered my photos again, i have not enough photos to submit (minimum of 20 photos). There goes my chance to be one of the winner!

An effort given by you - sweating a lot, sacrificed time, bare with me under the hot sun, yet I did not achieve what I aim for.

Kindergarden (Krokop)

Few of us volunteered to be helpers for Krokop Kindergarden Sport's Day. At first, i joined this event just to go around and taking photos of events. Frankly speaking, i used to think that kindergarden are all english speaking place, not till this event where i found out that they actually speaks chinese to students!

I come from City but a kampung boy.

They have this very cute 'name tag' for us, kind of contra right? My chinese and christian name is different. David be should be 大胃 =D.

As a volunteer, i'm assigned to become one of the photographer. There's another professional photographer which when i saw 2 of his camera, Canon 1D with EFS zoom lens, I can just stand aside. That's not the whole thing, we're both DSLR, i can also take some good photos with my camera.

The dark chocolate and white chocolate.

The classes are categories into fruits. I vote for pineapple, the cutest fruit of all! When i looked at these kids, i felt that i'm back to where i used to be. A memorable childhood, i played, i cried, i got scolded by teachers, plucking out those layers of paint on the chair... hmmm..

The boy kept sticking out his tongue throughout the game, trying to control the ball to the next destination. Chubby chubby boy, you make me wanna pinch you.

The game were intense! Cheering from friends, parents, teachers, and CV group. The moments i like is where i'm able to see so many enthusiasm in them. I never get to remember my kindergarden's Sport Day, or do we even have one.

This uber cute kid. Didn't notice this girl until ly told me about it. Requested from the mom, but it seems the baby doesn't like me =(

After the event ends, CV members are also taking part in the game! They're required to pick up 'egg' and put it into the apron and so on.

The event ends about 1p.m with a group photo and everyone cleaning up the kindergarden.

I'm happy that i participate in this event. I misses those kids, reminds me of my childhood. When i helped those kids, they smiled and in return there's joy in me.

Tuition Free Week

Tuition free week, where most of our VV group went back to their respective hometown.Lucky for us Villians, we're united and only 2 person ditched us in Villa, haha. Not too worry, we've great times here in Villa.

Whei Yi, a person who claimed that she does not know how to cook, became a successful chef. She cooked for 16 pax with spaghetti. I just know how to eat and not cooking anything. Overall, it was a great meal, you have exceeded my expectation! keep it up!

Our Villa's proudest thing, head chef - nicole. We went E-mart the previous day and bought char kuey teow's material. Yes, it really reminds me of Penang CKT! I miss it really much. Those who went back hometown missed the chance to taste good food... =P

Bought some anchovies, wanted to make pan mee, ended up cooking it for soup (radish, carrot and meatball). Ying ting provided us some beef minced meat and we rolled them into a few balls. I even put beef stock instead, turn out very salty.. x-X

A Range of DSLR

We had been crazily turning 'Gachapon'  which is a machine that when you inserted an amount of coins and turn, one plastic capsule will drop out.

At first night, one of our friend told us that opposite Curtin Villa, there's Gachapon that drops out mini DSLR toys, uber cute! So, a small group of us went out to try our luck. Mine was really lucky, first turn and i got what i wanted.. The toy even have lights. Nic and sin nee had not been lucky, they got spongy fruits instead!

The mini DSLR meets the big brother.

We all took turns to try our luck, though i'm lucky to get 3 DLSR but..... the one i wanted the most was on Nic's hand!! She kept getting fruit toys but it got really lucky for her to get the white colour DSLR...

Income Tax Money

Thanks to Jib Kor, we get to spend our RM200 BR1M voucher. I would also like to thank all working people that pay income tax! I'm classified as 2nd batch to get voucher and not the 1st batch because i registered for Curtin around December. Both 1st batch and 2nd batch's voucher expired date are the same, 31st March 2012. *Smack forehead* Is this fair?

2nd Batch voucher release around 2nd or 3rd week of March, bullshit!! I asked the counter whether the expired date is extended, she replied "NO, still same"..I rushed to spend all my voucher (and got myself a free POPULAR Card ; spending more than RM150) on the weekend. Don't know what to buy, i just bought a 16gb Pendrive (RM49.90, cheap), few cook books, a set of file, photocopy paper and last but not least, a CD of chinese oldies.

At the end, at last week of March.. It is announced that the dateline of voucher extended to April ++

The end of March

31st March 2012, Saturday

We shall end March with one of the most satisfying meal. Everyone contributes for today, even ying ting doesn't know how to cook, she decided to buy some roasted pork. Its time for you to learn how to cook!!! Even whei yi started cooking, hahaha!

This post will shock those of you that know me for a some time!

Broccoli garlic style.

Got this from Curtin Race event, where we 'da bao' back since not much people eat the catering foods. I don't know what is this thing called but it tasted like curry. We brought back lots of curry puffs too! Oh yeah, long time i didn't eat curry puffs =(.. used to eat alot in Subang Jaya!

Like i said, those that read this post will be shock. Don't panic, this is true. I told a few people and they did not believe that I, David Khor Shen Lih cooked this dish (Garlic Butter Button Mushroom). I learn this dish from my sister actually, whenever she barbeque, this dish will sure be there. Now now, please don't say that i have finally start eating mushrooms!!!! NOooo!!!! I still don't eat mushrooms!! hahahahaha

 Cabbage and Fried Rice.

Roasted pork RM15 + 2 types of chilly sauce (that we mixed it with our vegetables).

Homemade 'Kentucky' fried chicken.

The usual villians! Thank you everyone for being such a great cook.

Curtin Race 2012

31st March 2012, Saturday

Few of my friends and i volunteered for curtin race. I joined a few events to learn something and also have fun. Whats life in uni without any fun right? Curtin race is something like Amazing Race, where participants have to go around places (with car) and answer question/do task. At the end, the team that have highest score will win!

Previous weeks, we have to prepare questions and games. My team have to go Bintang and Boulevard shopping complex to construct questions and task. Trust me, it wasn't easy at all.. we spent hours doing it.
 Our crew's shirt.

The team with the most attractive attire which caught our attention.

The total participants that came, i felt kinda unfair for those student that does not have a car and couldn't participate. Since car is most important thing here, imagine if they join the event with bus / taxi.. They have to complete the race in 5 hours.

All teams ready up and run to grab their task!! And analyze the questions!

At the football field, there are games that participants have to play. Everyone have to play or else they'll bee disqualified.

Everyone ready for the results. Anyway, this was unexpected. We volunteers have to mark the questions and task for every team. It wasn't easy at all. Spent more than an hour doing it though we have 5 volunteers marking it. Stressful when some teams come and bug you to give you more pressure!!!!

At the end this 2 teams won best attire (male) and 1st prize winner (female). Congrats.

Pasta Day

25th March 2012, Sunday

It getting bored to eat chinese food, since everyone is sooo busy on this day, kai wen said he was free enough to cook for us... PASTA! Everyone contributed for this 2 course meal. Those who did not cook before helped to cook. Even those who did not know how to cut honey dews learn how to do it!

Carbonara and Bolognese with lots of mushroom, darn scary seeing the amount of button mushrooms inside. Though we should use the white button mushroom, but no one actually mind! Because it is so hard to get those kinda mushroom unless we go town! troublesome to stay in this area.

The 'Yin Yang' of the 2 sauce. Yummy!

The China traditional way of drinking. Using a bowl or for waiyih... use the big pail like thing... =.="

18mm Lens

21/03/2012, Saturday

Today i'm supposed to cook '扣肉米粉'(Kou Rou Mee Hoon), since i kept going to their house and eat, i'll have to contribute a bit. The recipe was given by my mom as this is one of her specialty. Have to keep calling her to tell me the steps, wouldn't want to give people a bad impression about my food right? yes i'm kiasu!

Then this pretty lady came back from university after presentation and since she seldom wear formal, i was requested by kai wen to take a photoshoot on her. Frankly speaking, i'm really bad at taking Portrait photos, i always get bombard by my friends that i took their picture and show that they're FAT. There's always an angel to take the slimmer side but i'm not potential portrait photographer.. i prefer landscape and macro.

Been a long time since i last use this lens, since it have limited range but still the best for portrait shooting.

LY and Nicole, that people comment this picture as SNSD (Girl's Generation). 1 of the picture i like the most. Will take this photo for 1 of the curtin university photography competition.

Random pose.

Nicole just look like my daughter OMG!

The two cute and crazy mates!

Ok, its very rare for me to take out glasses for photo, except passport photo. Hehe, just for fun since everyone didn't wear specs. I just look so weird @_@

Finally, last but not least. The recipe passed down by my Sifu (mother) that teaches me how to cook this dish. Thank you.
