Last dinner at Miri @ Lutong

16th June 2012, Saturday.

Since I touched down at KL, i'd been really tired due to outing, rage eating since i came back, i miss the KL food soo much!

Bored of the food in Senadin, i'm very fussy when it comes to food. Texted yiiing whether she wants to go for dinner, since both of us are going back on the 17th. Wanted to try something new instead of the usual senadin food.

Unsure of what is good and bad. Its safer that i called for recommendation, luckily i called for the right person. Without thinking, my awesomeness friend, doris (i prefer calling her cute little name) gave me a few places to choose already.

Kent's Garden is located at Lutong which is very near to our place. From google, the atmosphere was just nice for a dinner for 2. Trouble was i couldn't locate the restaurant from my GPS, had to depend on yiing's gps to find the place. At least we tried finding that place and we did found it. Just follow Kg. Pengkalan.

Garden Salad, which the dressing have a bit of peanuts. Don't think i can describe much about salad.

Doris told me that the main purpose to this place was to have the cheese baked rice. Both of us ordered the different flavour (chicken & mushroom and marinara). Not being bias towards mushrooms (i don't eat mushrooms) but i personally think that marinara taste better in terms of the sauce.

Yiing was tempted with the lamb cubes, i do admit i'm tempted too, how can i resist meat? First few bites was good, well marinated. After that, i feel that it was too salty for my liking.

Address: Lot 1058, Kampung Pengkalan Lutong, 98100 Miri, Malaysia

The next day, evening flight back to Miri was delayed but fortunately it wasn't a long delay. By the time i reach KL, it was around 10.40p.m. See you in a month =)

Traveling around Miri

Since sin nee and I have car, both of us became driver of the day and travel around Miri. Planning to eat dim sum in the morning but the restaurant we wanted to go did not open, went to alternative place for dim sum. Took us rounds and rounds (yao che ho) =D and finally we reach Little Hong Kong

First time in Miri since touch down that i ate dim sum =D craving for 排骨.

Since ivanna's birthday is during the holiday and we're not around to celebrate for her, yiing's idea was to treat her for a meal (dim sum).

Next, went to Siti Payung to buy kek lapis. My 1st impression for kek lapis was really bad when i ate it in Miri Airport but this shop changed my perception on the kek lapis. This was not too sweet nor strong artificial flavouring taste. Bought back one Durian flavour back to KL.

The place where they make the kek lapis and the machine to mix(?).

Esplanade & Dinner

Exam is finally over! Everyday i'm waiting for the day to get my car (rental), since it is very expensive, had to rent for only 4 days till the day i leave Miri. Miri is a place whereby if you don't have a car, you'll be stuck, can't go anywhere. Bus/taxi is alternative but expensive =P

The day (evening) when i got the car, i do feel a bit shaky while driving, been sometime since i drive long distance. Had to drive all the way to esplanade since i got a hot date a night nearby there. Thanks to my GPS, i'm able to reach the beach before sunset. I hears sunset & beach very much.

Sunset at the beach is the best place you can do with your other half *hint hint*. Walking on the beach, feeling the breeze, the sound of wave

Night time, went to Siamese Secret for dinner after picking up shin hui. The place was packed with people until we are forced to sit outside. I insist on sitting inside and kept peeping inside to find a seat =P

After a while, we are allocated a seat inside the restaurant, that's more like it. I'm having a hot date with a lady, how can i let her sit outside with both of us sweating and dining. The ambiance inside the restaurant was really nice, well decorated although it is a little small.

French Onion was something unexpected. May be this particular restaurant have its own unique taste but it sure doesn't suit me. An french onion should be sweet or overly sweet! nuf said

Char Grilled Lamb was not too bad. Definitely worth what you paid for, even more than expected. The portion was huge, being given 3 pieces of lambs. Will be better if they didn't over cook it to fit with the sauce.

Sirloin steak was really good as the had marinated with spices, it does have a hint of cajun and other spices which i couldn't identify. I ordered my doneness to be medium rare, to my disappointment, it looks more like medium.

Address of Siamese Secret : Lot 513 jalan merbau, ground floor 98000, Miri, Sarawak.

After dinner, went to Beach Republic for night beach view. Regretted that i didn't bring torchlight for a night walk on the beach! Beach Republic is like a club open for public if not mistaken. With restaurant, beach ball, swimming pool, gym, etc..

Uber nice Logo under the light =)

New First Choice Cafe Centre @ Pujut 7, MIri

It's been a while since i have last blog about food, it is really troublesome to travel around in Miri if you do not have a car. Raging and craving for a good meal, the day had finally come. Yet, i'm don't hope to put a high expectation on this.

Most of my friend's exam are over and they had been having a good time enjoying their holiday. Sadly, i was not one of them that gets to enjoy fully but it was a great night as i was invited to join along for dinner where i do not need to see Senadin food for just 1 night. Sin nee drove us all for the dinner=)

They had not decided on what to eat until they suggested to go to the restaurant yiing went last time. We were not sure where it was, just try our luck. We missed one of the turning and had to go all the way to a roundabout and make a U-turn (2 roundabout U-turns to be exact).

When you sit down, you could see most of the tables are order the same claypot dish and the board indicating the same thing. The first thing you enter the restaurant, you could smell a strong aromatic curry smell. I was hoping to we would call that, since everyone is calling it, must be something special, and we did.

三味豆腐 (3 taste tofu), is something i could relate to thai style tofu. I guess the meaning of 3 taste is sweet sour salty, i don't taste any spiciness in it. As i mentioned, i had to lower down all expectation, still i have to criticize. The tofu was fried with a tip of crunchiness but there was too much toppings (onions etc) that spoilt the taste.

Butter Chicken. We call for the small portion but i didn't quite expected it to be that small. This was indeed one of butter chicken i tried with a stronger butter taste,i like the taste but there's a lack of sauce for us to enjoy. The chicken was dry which lower down the point given.

I mentioned that there's the strong aromatic curry smell and a claypot dish where most of the table will have it. I read through food blogs of Miri and found out that this place is famous for its signature dish, curry fish head. Whenever people mentioned about curry fish head, it is this place. The curry fish head was a good choice especially when the weather was very cold (strong wind), it urged me to eat it when the dish is served due to the strong smell! It wasn't very spicy with a thick gravy to fill it on your rice. It could have done better without me eating fish scales in every 2-3 bites of my fish! That is what i dislike the most. Overall, i do recommend this curry fish head.

We wanted to call clams but some of our friends didn't like it, may be next time.

The restaurant was not visible from the main road. The only landmark is a restaurant name Lou Wai Lou (楼外楼)is facing the main road. That's the area where New First Choice Cafe Centre is located.

VV Gathering '12

31st May 2012, Thursday

VV (villa village) Gang started with a small bunch of group and it grow into a big family. We have our last dinner before class started and everyone was busy with their coursework, we barely have a big group of VVs sitting together for dinner.

We have a beginning, we'll also have an ending gathering for our 1st Semester in Curtin University. Ending just sound so sad, aiks.

This is the restaurant we went, when we have 26 members of VV during that time for dinner. Well, this time some couldn't make it, there's also + - of members but the most important thing is we have our REUNION before going for exam. Credits to Jiun and KW for this reunion.

The Tall guy remains tallest, still growing? i'm not so sure =P

Doing fine here =) Exam will be next after this reunion. Everyone will be camping in the library, mcD(?), at home stressing till early morning and barely have energy to move next morning.

CYA Camp'12

27th May 2012, Saturday

An outdated post, due to exam period, i'm unable to update this blog but since i'm free now and no mood for studies (having freedom mood now).

I'd join this event as one of the volunteer under CV, volunteer under volunteer o_O! What's this event all about? Free food! xD

CYA camp is about bringing in selected secondary school students to Curtin University and letting them know about the life in university. There are volunteers that do day shift, night shift or even both.

My friends and I were all night shifters, due to exam period is near and we're at our study week. We couldn't afford to do the day shift or else we won't have time studying. Another reason, was we heard that we can order McD for supper =D *free* which eventually at the end its not free =( ... No hard feelings, at least i get to eat

5 course meal per day, but we night shifters only went for dinner. Which the mosquitoes fed on us as well ..
There's a few first time experienced in this camp, overnight in uni (from 8.30p.m - 6.30a.m - without sleep) for 2 days, seeing the beautiful sunrise...and another spooky thing happened.

On the 2nd night, we just reached campus and heard 2 loud screams, we thought it was coming from the Recreation Hall where students are having activities. Till we saw some staff and senior advisors ran towards LT 201. *now i'm typing, i still have some goosebumps*. Someone was on hysteria, having around 8-10 people grabbing the girl and calming her down. Soon after that another 2 got affected. Well, this is the first time for me to experience this kinda of these which i don't see it back in west malaysia. Maybe because i'm not from government school. But then again, i went through so many camps at various schools and forest but this did not occur.

Overall, though we do not have fun with the students (day shift interacts more with them), we nightshifters just guard them to sleep =P but at least we have some fun la, i think? haha. Well i definitely did, i went to the closing ceremony and we dance, shuffle and stuff, seeing those cheerful faces! So WHAT'S NEXT?
